Construction of hundreds of homes on the Chelsea Barracks site finally got underway this week after having been subject to much controversy during the past 8 years since the site was sold.

The Masterplan for the site was granted formal Outline Planning Permission in December 2011. The permit essentially allows for the construction of a maximum of 448 residential units including 123 affordable units, a contribution to Westminster’s Affordable housing fund and a number of other social amenities.

The project will be completed in phases with phase one being designed by architects Squire and Partners. This phase will include 74 apartments spread across three blocks with apartments that range in size from 1 to 6 bedrooms. It has been reported that these apartments will cost between £2M and £50M and will be completed in 2018.

Project Blue Ltd (PBL) and Project Blue Developments Ltd (PBDL) are the owners of the Chelsea Barracks site. Both are owned by Qatari Diar, a real estate investment company owned by the Qatar Investment Authority.
