The sale of Hyde Park Barracks appears to be back on track. Estates Gazette reports that Bilfinger GVA has been appointed by the Ministry of Defence to undertake scenario testing and relocation options for Hyde Park Barracks, with the intention of asking for bids towards the end of 2017.
This could easily become the highest profile real estate deal in prime central London worth well in excess of £1billion once the redeveloped scheme is eventually brought to the market.
The six acre site has been the base for the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, which also mounts the Queen’s Life Guard at Horse Guards, since the first buildings were constructed for the Horse Guards in 1795. Over the years more buildings were added to the original site including a 94-meter tower built in the 1970’s which Architectural society C20 had applied to have listed. This bid was rejected by the then heritage minister Tracey Crouch in 2015.
