The Wellington Hotel, as it will be called, received planning permission from local London authorities this week. Construction is expected to start in early 2017 and will last for about two years. The plans include an 83-room hotel, complete with a spa, a restaurant and a private members’ club.

This marks the Oscar-winning actor’s third venture into the hotel business – he opened New York’s Greenwich hotel in 2008, which is now home to the Tribeca film festival and later opened Manila’s Nobu hotel, in the Philippines.

De Niro teamed up with BD Hotels and Capital & Counties Properties PLC (Capco) to realise this project in London.  Capco own Covent Garden Market and a number of surrounding buildings that are home to high-end shops and restaurants.
